How Long Does it Take for Solar Heating to Heat the Pool?

how long does it take for solar pool heating to heat my pool

You’re thinking about going solar for your pool heating. Congratulations on making a great choice—it’s environmentally friendly, efficient and easy to maintain. But how long will it take to warm the pool? That’s a difficult question to answer because there are a lot of variables. In this post, we’ll do our best to explain them.

First of all, are you planning to use a pool cover? The cover will keep most of the heat in your pool and you’ll be able to bring the water up to your ideal temperature much faster. If it’s a solar cover, then even better. It will absorb the sun’s rays and add to the heat of your pool.

Secondly, it depends on the heat of the day. Solar pool heating relies on the warmth of the sun to heat the collectors and, if it’s not the warmest day, you may struggle to reach your desired temperature. On those days, of course, you may not actually want to swim!

Thirdly, it depends on the size of the system. Recommendations on the solar collector area vary, with some companies suggesting you go with as little as 80% of your pool’s surface area. At Supreme Heating, we recommend you at least match each square metre of your pool’s surface area with the same coverage on your roof. That will ensure your pool heats up as quickly as possible.

Finally, bear in mind that not all solar pool heating is created equal. Solar systems may vary, but the principal remains the same. The amount of heat absorbed and the subsequent increase in pool temperature depends on the system design, size of collector, and the type of control system used.

Supreme Heating’s innovative Heatseeker range, which includes the industry-leading Heatseeker Plus and the multiple-award-winning Heatseeker UniPanel, will raise the temperature of your pool by approximately 10oC and extend your swimming season by six to eight months of the year depending on where you are located.
