Householders can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by installing solar hot water heaters or small scale renewable energy generators. Where these systems qualify under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000, the system's owner can benefit financially. To simplify the inclusion of solar water heaters and small generation units under the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target, the number of Renewable Energy Certificates (REC's) that can be claimed for eligible systems has been calculated by the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator and are referred to as deemed amounts. Deemed Renewable Energy Certificates for both solar water heaters and small generation units may be either created and traded by the owner of the system, or assigned to a registered agent. You may assign your right to create certificates to an agent in return for some benefit to you, such as a rebate or price reduction. In this case, the agent will own the certificates. Every Supreme Heating hot water system is assigned a number of REC’s points on the basis of efficiency and size of the system, and the zone in which it will be installed. Australia has been split up into 4 different zones according to postcode. Total values with REC’s can range anywhere in between 10 and 45 points, which at this stage could add up to a $1800 saving on the total price of the system. Please visit www.orer.gov.au for more information. - State Government Rebate The rebate system for each state differs, however it is based on your Supreme Heating’s water heating systems REC’s. In Victoria for instance, Sustainability Victoria offers anywhere in between $900 and $2500 for installing a solar hot water system. You may be eligible for this rebate if you are replacing an existing electric hot water system. |
