Swimming Pool Heat Pumps

Pool heat pumps use electricity to extract heat from air to increase the water temperature (pumping the heat from air to water). Swimming pool heat pumps are a highly efficient and cost-effective way to heat your pool. Heat pumps are a great alternative to gas heaters and are suitable for year-round pool heating.

Besides considering the size of your pool and the desired temperature, there are other critical factors to keep in mind when buying a new pool heat pump. The two essential features to look for when choosing a heat pump are Coefficient of Performance (COP) and Inverter Technology.

Benefits of our pool heat pumps

  • Energy Efficiency (COPs up to 20x)
  • Cost-Effective Operation
  • Consistent Performance
  • Long Lifespan and Warranties
  • Low Maintenance Requirements
  • Easy to use and remote WiFi operation

WHAT IS INVERTER TECHNOLOGY?

Heat pump inverter technology improves efficiency and performance by controlling the speed of the compressor motor. Traditional heat pumps operate on a simple on/off cycle, where the compressor is either running at full capacity or turned off completely. In contrast, heat pump inverter technology allows the compressor to adjust its speed in response to the temperature needs.

By using heat pump inverter technology, the heat pump can operate more efficiently and maintain more consistent temperatures, resulting in improved comfort and energy savings. Additionally, the technology reduces the wear and tear on the compressor, resulting in longer lifetimes for the unit.

WHAT DOES COP MEAN?

A heat pump’s COP (Coefficient of Performance) is a measure of its efficiency. It is defined as the ratio of the heat output to the energy input. In other words, the COP is the amount of heat generated by the heat pump per unit of energy consumed.

For example, a heat pump with a COP of 3.0 would generate 3 units of heat for every unit of energy it consumes. This means that it is 300% efficient, since it is generating three times as much heat as the energy input.

IMPORTANCE OF POOL COVERS

To achieve higher COPs and make the most of the Inverter Technology, it is essential to use a pool cover especially if the heat pump is used for heating in colder weather.  Without a cover, the pool temperature can drop significantly overnight, forcing the heat pump to work harder and at lower COPs. With a pool cover, heat loss is reduced overnight, enabling the heat pump to operate more efficiently and eliminating the need for a larger unit.
